Your first manual car driving lesson will focus on helping you feel safe and in control. We start with an introduction to the car, including how to use the clutch, gear stick and pedals. You will learn about the biting point, how to move off smoothly and how to stop the car safely.
We begin in quiet areas so you can build confidence without distractions. From there, your instructor will guide you through essential skills such as steering, changing gears and approaching junctions. By the end of your first lesson, you will already have a feel for driving and a clear idea of what comes next, easing your nerves to make the next lesson that much simpler.
Learning to drive a manual car means gaining control over the clutch and manually changing gears. In contrast, automatic cars change gears for you, which some learners may find easier at first.
